Correlations between density distributions, optical spectra, and ion species in a hydrogen plasma (invited)
2016
An experimental study of plasma distributions in a 2.45 GHz hydrogen discharge operated at 100 Hz repetition rate is presented. Ultrafast photography, time integrated visible light emission spectra, time resolved Balmer-alpha emission, time resolved Fulcher Band emission, ion species mass spectra, and time resolved ion species fraction measurements have been implemented as diagnostic tools in a broad range of plasma conditions. Results of plasma distributions and optical emissions correlated with H + , H + 2 , and H + 3 ion currents by using a Wien filter system with optical observation capability are reported. The magnetic field distribution and strength is found as the most critical facto…
Optical and Vibrational Spectra of CsCl-Enriched GeS2-Ga2S3 Glasses
2016
Optical and FTIR spectroscopy was employed to study the properties of 80GeS2-20Ga2S3-CsCl chalcohalide glasses with CsCl additives in a temperature range of 77–293 K. It is shown that CsCl content results in the shift of fundamental absorption edge in the visible region. Vibrational bands in FTIR spectra of (80GeS2-20Ga2S3)100 − х (СsCl) x (x = 5, 10, and 15) are identified near 2500 cm−1, 3700 cm−1,, around 1580 cm−1, and a feature at 1100 cm−1. Low energy shifts of vibrational frequencies in glasses with a higher amount of CsCl can be caused by possible thermal expansion of the lattice and nanovoid agglomeration formed by CsCl additives in the inner structure of the Ge-Ga-S glass.
Optical Spectra and Direct Optical Transitions in Amorphous and Crystalline ZnO Thin Films and Powders
2010
Comparative studies of ZnO crystalline and amorphous thin films and nanocrystalline powders are reported. The UV-visible optical spectra were analyzed with special attention paid to the direct optical bandgap. Atmospheric radio-frequency barrier torch discharge and pulsed hollow cathode sputtering techniques for the film fabrication were used. For the crystalline films, similar values of the direct optical bandgap were found independent of the growth method used. The analysis of the amorphous films and powders revealed a pronounced Urbach-like exponential absorption tail approaching the bandedge. For the powders, the bandgap energies were larger than those for the crystalline and amorphous …
Photonic crystals based on two-layer opaline heterostructures
2002
AbstractOptical properties of several heterostructures representing two-layer opaline photonic crystals have been examined. Two separate stop-bands have been observed both in transmission and emission spectra. The effect of the interface disorder on the optical spectra was not observed, probably, due to the insufficient degree of order of the opaline layers.
Controlling the oxidation processes of Zn nanoparticles produced by pulsed laser ablation in aqueous solution
2016
We used online UV-VIS optical absorption and photoluminescence spectra, acquired during and after pulsed laser ablation of a Zinc plate in aqueous solution, to investigate the effect of the laser repetition rate and liquid environment on the oxidation processes of the produced nanoparticles. A transient Zn/ZnO core-shell structure was revealed by the coexistence of an absorption peak around 5.0 eV due to Zn surface plasmon resonance and of an edge at 3.4 eV coming from wurtzite ZnO. The growth kinetics of ZnO at the various repetition rates, selectively probed by the excitonic emission at 3.3 eV, began immediately at the onset of laser ablation and was largely independent of the repetition …
APOGEE Data Releases 13 and 14: Stellar Parameter and Abundance Comparisons with Independent Analyses
2018
Data from the SDSS-IV / Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2) have been released as part of SDSS Data Releases 13 (DR13) and 14 (DR14). These include high resolution H-band spectra, radial velocities, and derived stellar parameters and abundances. DR13, released in August 2016, contained APOGEE data for roughly 150,000 stars, and DR14, released in August 2017, added about 110,000 more. Stellar parameters and abundances have been derived with an automated pipeline, the APOGEE Stellar Parameter and Chemical Abundance Pipeline (ASPCAP). We evaluate the performance of this pipeline by comparing the derived stellar parameters and abundances to those inferred from opti…
Non-linear optical spectra of excitons in polydiacetylene
1992
Abstract Adding long-range Coulomb interactions to the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model makes it possible to investigate excitonic states in conjugated polymers. Various characteristic features due to these states as well as due to the electron-hole continuum can be found in the calculated non-linear optical susceptibilities. In particular the electroabsorption spectrum and the third harmonic generation intensity and its dependence on the system size are examined. Using only moderate interaction strength, various experiments in polydiacetylene can be interpreted in a consistent way.
